Carpas

 Corridos

Stories, often passed down through oral
traditions, a gift handed down from one generation to the next. From Grandparent to child.

In the tradition of the Mexican traveling tent show, carpas were somewhere between vaudeville and circus.

Simply put, stories put to music. Legends and great acts of humble people have historically been carried from one
community to another, by word of song.

 Cultural Arts Institute
offers Arts in Education programs and includes workshops and touring shows for schools. There is also curriculum support for teachers. The CAI is part of the Kennedy Center Arts in Education Institute. CAI programs are designed to increase literacy, build positive self esteem and reinforce

developing critical thinking skills.

XicanIndie Filmmakers Festival
Westword called it the best ethnic film festival. This event showcases the work of independent film artists, who are fast creating a new genre of cinema. Chicano film has grown since its early beginnings with I Am Joaquin to include mainstream films such as Selena. The XicanIndie Fest offers opportunity for arts working on the edge, pushing to discover voices struggling to be heard.
